1. Still Running from Spring, 2005:
2000 - 2019: Neptune-Pluto Septile: A septile is one-seventh of a 360° circle, and is thus an angle of about 51°. While astrologers normally do not devote much space to septiles in reading for their individual clients or the planet as a whole, they're making an exception for the one that began in September, 2000 and will continue until well after the End of Time forecast for 2012. As Neptune, now in Aquarius, and Pluto in Sagittarius are the two slowest-moving planets in our solar system, angles of relationship between them tend to be very long-lasting, as this one is. It continues through Pluto's crossing into Capricorn (2008) and the entry of Neptune into Pisces (2011), and does not begin to fade until 2019.
Both these planets pertain to specific areas of mass consciousness. Pluto is more political, social and technological in his sphere of influence, governing mass movements, the collapse and regeneration of governments and other institutions, and such technologies as computers and encyryption and espionage systems. Neptune is more mystical and aesthetic, holding a greater sway in the realm of mass spiritual and religious beliefs. Thus Tem Tarriktar of Mountain Astrologer expects this aspect to entail “global war and blatant propaganda, with extreme polarization on many levels,” as occurred when these planets were last in septile in 1937 40. Tarriktar quotes a valuable take on this septile by astrologer Edward Gilliam, writing about the actions of seventh-harmonic (7H) personalities, and the premise that a seventh-harmonic person or event, like the discordant interval of a seventh on a musical scale, represents a temporary harshness and discomfort that the music may go through until it resolves into the harmony of the octave.
“This journey into the dark, the shocking and the chaotic," Gilliam believes, "appears to emerge when we examine mundane and natal seventh-harmonic charts. . . . [The] seventh harmonic . . . can be a dark and overwhelming place - full of fears, surprises, taboos, and confrontations with ‘otherness.’ The 7H individual is someone who appears to be "living on the edge" as a ‘disorderer,’ renegade, or iconoclast, or someone who prods social conscience. The 7H event (typically a shocking human act) appears unannounced and unwelcome but may be a desperate final cry, from the darkest places in the collective psyche, perhaps to ‘re-balance' power relationships and to acknowledge the rights of disowned and dispossessed peoples.” (Mountain Astrologer, Feb. March, 2003)
We are now about one-fourth of the way through the Neptune-Pluto septile period, and we can readily imagine what some of the 7H events have been and will be. And the 7H people, including such candidates as Osama bin Laden, Hugo Chavez of Venezuela -- no wonder assassins are after both -- and, for that matter, the indigo children, who are here to bust old systems and limits, and clear them away.
Feb. 2005 - Feb. 2011: Chiron in Aquarius: For these six years, except for brief moves back into Capricorn and ahead into Pisces, the planet of the holistic healer will be in the sign of friendship and community, with all that this implies for individual health and planetary healing achieved by growing teams of like-minded light physicians. See Carolyn Brent's Shamanic Astrology website for her article "Chiron in Aquarius: The Kindness Revolution Elixir."
Feb. - June 2005: Pluto trine Dragon’s Head: From Feb. 1 through the Summer Solstice in June, a span of almost five months, there is a “fire trine” between Pluto in Sagittarius and the Moon’s North Node, or Dragon’s Head, in Aries. As Pluto is “retrograde” that is, apparently moving backward through most of this period, and the Moon’s Nodes always move backward through the zodiac, these two slow-moving energies are in an unusually long, and unusually important, relationship.
This long-lasting trine is in effect the glue that holds the first half of this year together when the most combative instincts and passions of many furiously self-righteous people are trying to pull it apart. It is possible now to use means of mass communication, especially computer-generated persuasion and imagery, to cool fanatics and to encourage light and love workers who may be prone to drooping faith in the spring of 2005. It is worth noting that this trine was exact on the same day Chiron recently entered Aquarius.
June 1 - 2: Oneness Celebration: Those who've been following the 13-year Galactic Creation Cycle described by Mayanist Carl Johan Calleman, and have read with growing interest his articles about the 360-day tun phases from 1999 to 2011, know that we are now in the cycle's central Fourth Day -- and seventh tun of thirteen -- and the months from last November through November 2005 are expected to be a time of increasing receptivity and awakening to the divine plan for the spiritual evolution of humankind. Why is June 1 - 2 so important? It's the midpoint of the entire 4,680-day cycle, when the illuminating force of the Fourth Day should be greatest. This is why Calleman and his team are working to organize the global Oneness Celebration on the days when, in their reckoning, the light is strongest. More on this on Calleman's website and in the May UFC.
2. Opening in Summer, 2005:
June 26: Planetary combinations after the Full Moon of June 23: The celestial show here is not in the opposition of Sun and Moon in early Cancer, but in a Mercury, Venus and Saturn conjunction in late Cancer. At the same time, Mars in his home sign of Aries opposes Jupiter in Libra. The Moon’s North Node (Dragon’s Head) in Aries is trine to Pluto in Sagittarius and sextile to Neptune in Aquarius. The Moon is conjunct Uranus in Pisces.
This rich and complex planetary alignment is exact and most intense on Sunday the 26th, three days after the Full Moon. This last weekend in June is likely to be a time when conflicts within families and friendships rise to the surface in unexpected ways, but can be resolved and healed with the help of the harmonious alignment that is present to help resolve clashes and bring understanding. Issues can be brought up in safety, provided that we hold the firm intention of a loving resolution.
July 2 - August 5: Saturn opposite Chiron: This long-running, intermittent aspect has been coming and going since 2003, and now returns for an Act III that will be brief but literally flamboyant, as Saturn is now in the fire sign of Leo, while Chiron is in the air sign of Aquarius through July, before "moving back" into the earth sign of Capricorn. The opposition between these two powerful, august figures is exact on July 22. As this Saturn-Chiron opposition has been covered in UFC Mythic Preludes for September 2003 and 2004, there is no need to look here at its general features about issues and methods of healing, both gentle and severe.
For those who find fear thrilling, the last act of the current Saturn-Chiron show is the hot ticket. As astrologer Carolyn Brent first pointed out, the last time these two planets were in exact opposition was on Dec. 26, the day of the Aceh Tsunami, which was precisely the kind of planetary event we would expect from friction between Saturn in water (Cancer) and Chiron in Earth (Capricorn). Whether their July opposition in fire and air manifests most predictably, in wild fires, remains to be seen, though at a time when human beings continue to play with matches as they do, it will not be surprising if fire decides to return the favor. In symbolic terms, the fire imagery suggests a wound that must be cauterized before it can be washed.
July 17: Saturn enters Leo: An important transition occurs now as Saturn exits Cancer and enters Leo, where he will remain until September of 2007.
As Saturn is the principle of weakness and restriction, but also the symbol of the wisdom that may come in solitude, his presence in the masculine, intellectual Sun-ruled sign of Leo represents a time when men in particular, but women too, will examine the limits of intellectual approaches to many areas of their lives, and will also retune as needed their sex roles and power roles in their relationships. Saturn is said to be “in detriment” in Leo as he was also in Cancer, his power muted and weakened, so that his guidance may seem to come at lower volume, and be harder to hear. For some this period of two years and a little more may seem less “productive” than they would like until they recognize that a greater abundance of ideas and work, and stronger support for them, will ensue upon new realizations about what one truly wishes to do, and for what aim.
July 22 - August 16: Mercury Retrograde: Fun for the whole family, as you know, especially for monkey personalities who love to laugh at the sputtering rage and confusion of others. For almost four weeks now, rather than the usual three, Mercury appears to move in reverse, bringing confusion, blockage, delay, stupid crook stories and bozotic miasms of all kinds to the sectors of communications, transportation and commerce that he rules. This time it all happens while Mercury is in Leo, where he is "in fall," his nervous spirit not just scattered and unusually mistake-prone, but potentially vindictive and perverse. Mercury in Leo feels obliterated by the glare of the Sun, and, like an expert misused insultingly by an arrogant boss, he may flame out or find a way to fight back. Kindness, patience and clear communication are essential now, especially when one is dealing with tightly-wrapped types, and other players in what Edward Dorn once called the theatre of impatience.
Astrologer Cheryl Niggle writes, "Mercury retrograde in Leo brings intellectual confusion and mix-ups through egotism, undue dramatics, acting out, unnecessary extravagance, theatrical claptrap, and exaggeration. It gives high ideals and aspirations, so be sure that your goals are clear and that pettiness is kept under control. Kind-hearted and sympathetic ideals come to the fore but can suffer from too much focus on the "big picture" and not enough concern for the necessary connections. Public figures and leaders may appear puffed-up, prideful, and passionate, leading to conflicts and misunderstandings. People in general are fickle and inconstant, while those who indulge in gambling are likely to lose their shirts due to overconfidence. Keep sensual desires under control, especially if recording them in words, as for example, in an email, which may just wind up in unexpected and embarrassing places." 3. Coming Attractions for Fall, 2005:
Oct. 24 through May 17, 2006: Saturn trine Dragon’s Head: A long-lasting aspect forms now as the Moon’s North Node or Dragon’s Head, moving backwards in Aries, trines Saturn, moving retrograde, then forward again, in Leo.
Oct. 25: Jupiter enters Scorpio: Through late November 2006. The king is not in fury, nor is he brightly entertained in the dark underworld home of Pluto. Conspirators work in safety, and even the innocent shore up their secrets.
Nov. 13 - Dec. 14: Jupiter trine Uranus I: Jupiter in Scorpio forms the first of three trines with Uranus in Pisces between now and September, 2006. The trine is exact on Nov. 27 28.
Nov. 14 - Dec. 3: Mercury Retrograde: In his least happy placement, in Sagittarius, though he does "move back" into Scorpio for part of this time.
Nov. 29: Eighth Tun and Fourth “Night” in the Galactic Creation Cycle now begins, and will last through late November of 2006.
