Scene
Twenty-Two:
For
a Moment, Love is Everywhere.
The Space remains in Blackout after the Love Act of
ISIS and OSIRIS. He is Born melody, now in minor key. Lights up on OSIRIS.
He is alone, asleep, resting on his right side. MA'AT KHU flies closer in bird form. HOLO out as she enters the Space.
OSIRIS:
A moment of silence.
MA'AT:
If you're seeing this story at a time when people
are uncomfortable with sex, our apologies for disturbing the--what's
a kind word?
THOTH:
(OFF:) Equilibrium?
MA'AT:
Equanimity.
THOTH:
More graceful, as always.
MA'AT:
--of those who've just seen Isis and Osiris united in
the act of love, and may feel indignant. Please
don't be frightened. You've survived the erotic parts of his story
until now, so Thoth and I have no doubts that you can weather
the love scenes that -- ahh. The poetry of his wings, his eyes.

MA'AT:
Your flight
was . . ? |
THOTH:

Pleasant. Bracing. Always is. (To CELEBRANTS, as he
goes onstage,
THOTH KHU out:) Hello again. And our apologies once more to anyone who was offended by the love scene.
Good
luck! And our sincere admiration to you for putting up such strong resistance.
But it's time to get a life. We have some even scarier love scenes coming up. Be strong, people. We
know you can survive another love
scene, maybe even like it. From here on, my dearest one and I will not have so many long pieces of
narration. Yes, thank you. We're as relieved about this as you are. When
we first did this story, I was, in fact, as you've just seen, the
first person ever to win a round of applause by promising to stop talking. There
will still be more talking this evening. Here in third density--
SET:
(OFF:) Wait a minute!
KHU of SET in his chariot, stirring a cloud
of red dust in the distance and coming closer.
MA'AT:
Right on time.
SET:
Tell 'em the tough news too, Hermie!
THOTH:
I will, your velocity. The good news is that Ma'at and I will
be talking less. The difficult news is that others will
be talking more.
SET:
Especially Horus. He will put you to sleep. Did these people get their
tea at the intermission? Good.
MA'AT:
The time will come when you will not dare to sleep in the
presence of Horus. (To CELEBRANTS:) Horus will do some talking. It can't
be helped. He's a bird.
THOTH:
Beloved friends, you're on your own for now.
Later, when you lift
us all out of the squabbles and fighting of this density, and into the stillness
of higher--
SET:
Any time!
SET KHU approaches, now nearly life size. Going home!
THOTH:
(To SET:) Be cool. (To CELEBRANTS:) You're
on your own. If only you knew how powerful your
own is. And now, everyone, the Scar of our Show, the one
who will kill you with everything but kindness,
the Dancer of Death, the --
SET:
Thank you.
THOTH and MA'AT exit stage, appear as
KHUs, fly--as they often
do from here on--so that they circle the Space. KHUs out. LIGHTs
down on OSIRIS, though he remains visible on his bed, and up on SET and NEPHTHYS'
bedchamber. SET is mixing oils and applying them to his body as NEPHTHYS, seated
outside, is writing with a quill pen on papyrus.
NEPHTHYS:
Not only has he been staying at home in the city, but he seems
to be a new Neter. He dresses now in soft, simple clothes that grace his body
and do catch the eye. He walks slowly and this is the truth, he's getting
smooth. He doesn't smell like death and leather.
NEPHTHYS crosses to her home. LIGHTS up on ISIS
at other wall,
carrying the herbs reading her sister's
letter.
ISIS:
In the evenings, he bathes in the river, and rubs himself with
flower juices and reed oils, and before we meet he chooses the fragrances
that he thinks will heat me. It's working. He is so different!

LIGHTS fade as SET and NEPHTHYS enter the chamber, and SET gives the flowers
to his wife. They enter the bed and embrace. My Fur is Up music begins.
